ABC offers a number of special rug treatments for your oriental and area rugs. It is important that our customers let us know if they have a need for any of these special services so we can provide the best results possible when cleaning.   

ANTI-ALLERGEN TREATMENT

At ABC Oriental Rug, our primary business objective is a commitment to use anti-allergen green cleaning wherever possible. ABC uses cleaning agents based on natural elements rather than the harmful chemicals of old for the majority of its cleaning methods. Examples of these natural elements include citrus, vinegar, and salt. Even when we must use more aggressive compounds, we choose those that are safer and much less toxic than others.

We care about our customers and our employees and the environment as well. We believe in putting health, safety, and the environment first as a primary business objective. With our anti-allergen green cleaning, we are able to meet that objective.

There are times when special treatments are called for when processing your rugs and we do everything we can to clean within our anti-allergen green cleaning policy requirements.

DUST MITE TREATMENT

It is the house dust mite waste or feces, and not the mites themselves that triggers asthmatic and allergic attacks. Research has revealed this trigger is a microscopic protein in the mite excrement called Der p1.

One of the special rug treatments we use for rugs is a dust mite anti-allergen compound that is derived from naturally occurring extracts found in plants and trees. It works by instantly deactivating the allergen Der p1 by denaturing the substance. Eliminating this allergen is the initial priority because the eradication of the dust mite itself is virtually impossible.

Studies by doctors and universities have demonstrated that when dust mite droppings are treated with the main active ingredient contained in our dust mite anti-allergen treatment, the allergens are physically changed, rendering them permanently harmless to people who display allergic symptoms to dust mite allergens.

In order to meet flame retardant qualifications for textiles used in certain areas, we provide a fire retardancy treatment.

This treatment is applied to your textile furnishing after which we send a small sample to International Fireshield of Auburn, NY to be tested. You will receive certification directly from that company if your textile meets the standards.

Fire retardant qualifications are covered by codes for places of public assembly, educational institutions, health care institutions, and residential areas. Please call or text our office at 607 272-1566 if your furniture, draperies, etc. are in need of fire retardant certification.

DYE FIX

Many of the rugs from various rug-weaving countries around the world have dyes that tend to 'bleed' or 'migrate' into other areas of the rugs (this is a manufacturing defect.) We will let you know, upon thorough inspection of your rug, whether or not a dye fix treatment is recommended. This process applies a 'mordant' or 'dye control' to the colors and is applied before the cleaning to prevent bleeding of colors.

INSECT (LIVE LARVA) DECONTAMINATION

Another one of the special rug treatments we use is a product called Microban (TM) X-580 for ridding textiles of many different live larvae contamination. Microban X-580 is an all-natural insecticide extracted from chrysanthemum flowers and is safe for home and commercial use.

Microban X-580 protects your textiles against Fleas, Ticks, Carpet Beetles, Body Lice, Moths and their Larvae, Cockroaches, Bedbugs, Flies, Wasps, Termites, Silverfish, Spiders, Ants, Hornets, Pill Bugs, Mosquitoes, Mites, Centipedes, Firebrats, Gnats, etc.

Only Microban X-580 offers a 3-Way protection against the invisible invaders: germs, insects, and odors. This product provides a long-lasting residual protection against textile-destroying insects for 6 months.

MOTH RETARDANCY

After your textiles have been treated for moths, our moth retardancy cleaning will retard the encroachment of moths by making the fiber unpalatable to the moths, thus 'retarding' their attachment to your fine wool and silk textiles.

SANITIZATION-ANTI-MICROBIAL

The process of sanitization is very useful in textiles which have animal or human urine and feces or other bodily fluids.  Our process will remove bacteria from the pile of the rug and produce a residual effect that will continue to destroy bacteria for up to 6 months.

In the case of urine, sanitization will NOT remove the odor. Because the urine salts (dried microscopic urine crystals) cannot be removed without a special soaking process, bacteria will continue to feed on them. The sanitization merely slows down the process.

SOIL and STAIN PROTECTOR

One of the special rug treatments we highly recommend is an application of Soil and Stain protector after every rug cleaning. Soil and Stain Protector will prevent spills on your rugs from becoming permanent stains, thus protecting the beauty and appearance of your rugs.  Please ask our staff which stain protection product would be best for you and for your particular rugs.
