Special Treatments
ABC offers a number of solutions for carpets and rugs needing special treatments. It is important that our customers let us know if they have need of these special services so we can provide the best results possible when cleaning.
ABC cares about our customers, our employees and the environment. Our primary business objective is a commitment to use anti-allergen green cleaning wherever possible. This concept is covered in the anti-allergen green cleaning section of this website which may be accessed by clicking here. There are times when special treatments are called for and we do everything we can to clean within in our anti-allergen green cleaning policy requirements. Chemical Sensitivity Cleaning When a customer has chemical sensitivities, this requires special treatments. Our equipment is capable of cleaning very effectively without the use of any cleaning compounds at all. This is done mainly by flushing the environment with water. Dust Mite Treatment It is the house dust mite waste or feces, and not the mites themselves, that triggers asthmatic and allergic attacks. Research has revealed this trigger is a microscopic protein in the mite excrement called Der p 1. One of the special treatments we use is a dust mite anti-allergen compound that is derived from naturally occurring extracts found in plants and trees. It works by instantly deactivating the allergen "Der p1" by denaturing the substance. Eliminating this allergen is the initial priority because the eradication of the dust mite is virtually impossible. The first step in the process is the thorough cleaning of the home, including hot water extraction of the carpet, rugs, and upholstery. Studies by doctors and universities demonstrated that when dust mite droppings are treated with the main active ingredient contained in our dust mite anti-allergen treatment, the allergens are physically changed, rendering them permanently harmless to people who display allergic symptoms to dust mite allergens. Please also see a more detailed explanation by clicking here. Dye Fix Many of the rugs from certain rug-weaving countries around the world have dyes that tend to "bleed" or "migrate" into other areas of the rugs (this is a manufacturing defect.) We will let you know, upon thorough inspection of your rug, whether or not a dye fix application is recommended. This process applies a "mordant" or "dye control" to the colors and is applied before the cleaning to prevent bleeding of colors. Fire Retardancy Treatment Often textiles and products in certain commercial and, especially school, environments must be certified as being fire retardant. A good example of this would be curtains and drapes. We use a fire retardant compound that is then sent to NY Fireshield to be certain the fiber passes strict fire retardancy certification. Insect (Live Larva) Decontamination Another one of the special treatments we us is a product called Microban (TM) X-580 for ridding textiles of many different live larva contamination. Microban (TM) X-580 is an all-natural insecticide extracted from chrysanthemum flowers and is safe for home and commercial use. Microban protects your textiles against Fleas, Ticks, Carpet Beetles, Body Lice, Moths and their Larvae, Cockroaches, Bedbugs, Flies, Wasps, Termites, Silverfish, Spiders, Ants, Hornets, Pill Bugs, Mosquitos, Mites, Centipedes, Firebrats, Gnats, etc. Only Microban X-580 offers a 3-Way protection against the invisible invaders: germs, insects, and odors. Microban offers long-lasting residual protection against textile-destroying insects for 6 months. Moth Decontamination and Retardancy For all your fine wool and silk textiles, we offer a method to retard the encroachment of moths. There is no process that can safely protect permanently against moths. Our process makes the fiber unpalatable to the moths, thus "retarding" their attachment to that fiber. Sanitization-Anti-Microbial ABC uses Microban Anti-Microbial for the purposes of sanitization. This is very useful in textiles which have animal or human urine and feces. The Microban will have a residual effect that will continue to destroy bacteria for up to 6 months. In the case of urine, sanitization will NOT remove the odor. Because the urine salts (dried microscopic urine crystals) cannot be removed without a special soaking process, bacteria will continue to feed on them. The sanitization merely slows down the process. Please see Urine and Feces Removal on this site. Soil and Stain Protector We highly recommend an application of soil and stain protector after every upholstery cleaning and after any cleaning of carpet and rug fibers other than olefin or polypropylene (which has its own stain protection properties built in). Please ask our staff which stain protection product would be best for you and for your particular items. A note of caution: Adding stain protection to a freshly cleaned carpet will add extra time to the totally drying process.
